Long bus ride to Ho Chi Minh City

Nothing very interesting happened on this day. It was raining in DaLat when we went out for an early lunch after breakfast in the hotel - that wasn't especially good and cost about as much as we'd saved by not having their crappy breakfast every day. We also had some bad coffee and ginger tea in a cafe on the corner of our street, one popular with the locals, and saw a bunch of kids waiting around after their karate or judo class. Leia bought a jeans jacket while I went back to the room.

The bus ride was 8 hours with no bathroom and not pleasant - we are glad it was our last one. We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, or SaiGon to the locals, after 2100. We hailed a cab to the backpacker district and I photographed the license plate but I think he still threw in an unnecessary U-turn at the end to drive up the meter a little bit.

We didn't make any reservation in order to leave us the freedom to choose hotels, and we carried our backpacks to look into about five of them before settling on one with a tiny room and weak WiFi, but on a low floor and in a quiet alley in this district. The low floor is important because very few hotels in our price range have elevators. This is a lively part of town and very nearby were many restaurants. We found an Indian one and had dinner there just before they were closing at 2230.
