Late for everything

We woke up pretty late after being so exhausted. We'd reserved a hotel that we could only check into in the afternoon. We packed our things, said goodbye to T and went to the train. We took the train to Umeda (or Osaka central) station and switched to the subway for one more station. Then we wandered around for three blocks because we didn't realize that we were right on top of it from our subway exit.

Our hotel Unizo is comfortable, yet soulless and the room is very small. It is pretty centrally located. We settled in and set out for the Osaka castle, a half an hour walk away. We stopped for some "street food" in a restaurant on the way.

We were late to get into the castle museum: all museums here close around 16:30, so we just enjoyed the park and saw the castle from outside. They have a shudokan - martial arts school - in the castle offering cheap classes, including a naginata class on Mondays, which we contemplated going to for Guy's birthday.

North of Umeda station they have a culinary district where we searched for food, but every restaurant we went into had no English menu. We then went to the sky building or "floating garden" (not really a garden) to watch the sunset, not before Leia realized she forgot her sunglasses in one of the restaurants. It was an expensive ticket to get up to a romantic view of the city at sunset but Leia was too distraught about her glasses. We also looked at the miniature town of restaurants underneath but didn't stop to eat anything. Tired, hungry, and upset we retraced our steps and found the sunglasses waiting for us in a smoky yakiniku restaurant. We then went to have eel in the Osaka Front building in a restaurant that specializes in Unagi, served on a wooden bowl of rice. It was delicious.
