Our flight was overbooked so I moved it 2 days later for a slightly less awful takeoff time in the morning, and got 4 total hours of sleep, yay! With only an hour connection in Phoenix, I reviewed the airport map and our connecting gates to find we were but a short jog down from our gate within the same section of the terminal.
In Mazatlan, we walked past several “licensed taxi” touts to a stand where I instantly recognized an attempted timeshare scam, and got a free map of the city out of it. Leia found the actual taxi stand. We could pay in credit card for a fixed-price ticket for a taxi to our hotel.
I’d researched how to use the local rideshare app to get around, so it’s great not to have a car. In fact, it’s easy to pay with credit card for everything, and the exchange rate is better than we’d get for cash. We took a short walk to a cash exchange place just to have a little cash on hand.
The hotel let us check in an hour early, and we strolled around the immediate neighborhood. Our hotel is in a kind of mall, where we ate cheap tacos at a sports bar, followed by expensive sushi in a small restaurant. The sushi was really good, Leia suspects it was expensive because the all-Mexican staff had to greet guests in Japanese. We’ve been having an appetizer at one place and then walking over to another place for a main course, to try more restaurants.
Leia got her feet scratched up, by only bringing sandals she had never tried on before.
We took a siesta after our snacking. Woke up still tired about 8pm, and went out for more dinner after napping, at a famous nearby seafood restaurant called Los Arcos. Seafood is very common here, and all the food is great.
