Today we enjoyed further long walks on the beach, this time south from our hotel to the end of the beach and the start of the Malecon boardwalk, with the letters that say “Mazatlan.”
Our hotel breakfast was unsatisfying, so we stopped into another hotel breakfast buffet and were so confused about how to pay for it that we ate very little, and almost accidentally dined & dashed. Fortunately we were caught, and paid up.
I observed another possible spot to view the eclipse on the beach, and studied tide charts to determine that the area we saw would be flooded at the time that I meant to be there.
We walked around a big white nightclub styled to resemble a Greek building, to reach the boardwalk and then turn around into town. The main road there has several taquerias and I found a good one to fuel my return walk.
For our appetizer meal we had pretty decent ramen and udon soup at Zasshi. We ate dinner at Shangri-la, a Chinese restaurant in our mall. The food was bland, with the wrong kind of noodles and a watery sauce, but the Espresso Martini cocktail that Leia ordered off-menu was amazing.
We’d skipped our morning coffee because we didn’t see our favorite barista at the usual cafe, yet it was open late so we stopped in the evening for pastries, and she was there. She noticed us talking about the cinnamon roll, and brought me one.
Excited to see the eclipse, we tried to get to sleep early.
