Moving Out

It took a long week of packing and arranging, then waking up at 6:30 to prepare a light breakfast and pack the final few things. The movers arrived at 8:20 and started work at 8:30. They packed the truck in about two hours and finished putting the last things in storage at 11:40, just 10 minutes over the minimum 3 hours for which they’d be paid, and they didn’t want to charge me for those 10 extra minutes, so I gave an equivalent tip. Our 10x10’ storage unit was just big enough for all our belongings.

That was when our honeymoon officially began. We drove down the road to a taqueria across the street from K&C wholesale fish market, for a burrito and some very nice tacos - I tried a shrimp taco which was good, though they slathered everything with salsa that was both spicy and I suspect made with tomatoes rather than just tomatillos.

We returned to the apartment to return the keys, but first we sat in the empty apartment to share a last bottle of blueberry beer I had saved, and reminisce about our moving in, living and raising Bernie-Cat there. With the furniture gone, we could find bands of Bernie’s fur behind where the bed was and where he slept in the closet.

Missing our baby already, we stopped to put our bags in our airport hotel, then visited Bernie in San Francisco, after a stop at a drugstore along the way. We were only there for half an hour but he was so cute, making brief forays out of his room to explore the bigger house with all its exciting new things to smell.
