Tarzan of the Jungle

Our first full day in the Costa Rican jungle we spent at “100% Aventura” doing a zipline course. There were over 50 people doing it with us so there was a long wait (in the rain of course) to begin, but once things got moving they got people through the course at a steady clip. There were 9 progressively longer ziplines, the last couple of them buffeted by the open wind over the jungle canyons, a short free-falling rappel that took some people by surprise, then a jeep ride to reach two “Superman” ziplines that launch you over the canyons face-first. Finally, we walked a plank to the end of a platform and walked off it for a few seconds of free-fall and a thrilling “Tarzan swing” back and forth like a pendulum. Stupid Guy is still kicking himself for forgetting to turn on the GoPro before doing it, but everyone was amused by his Tarzan holler, “Oooh-aaa-OOOO-AAAAA-OOO-AAA-OOOOH!”

After the ride when we were wet and dirty, we headed back to the hotel to clean up and change. Both our fleece jackets were soiled with some black tar/oil that dripped on us from the Superman ziplines and needed to be laundered. We showered and went to have some lunch at one of 2 restaurants in town called Sabor Tico. We then continued to a hummingbird gallery, which is just a cafe and gift shop located outside the Cloud Forest Reserve with hummingbird feeders outside, where many species of hummingbirds can be seen. We saw also some Coatis strolling around the coffee shop looking for scraps and an Olingo trying to steal from a hummingbird feeder. We had some mochachinos and watched the birds fly close enough past our heads for us to hear their wings hum.
