I went to lunch with Leia at the Peking Ente (duck) to give them another chance. The food was actually pretty okay Chinese food, not fantastic. Leia thought having tea with the meal would take up time, so instead I had a dark wheat beer with a ridiculous name: Schöfferhofer. Walking from the restaurant to her work we got mugged by a hornet, who was all buzzing up in both of our faces for a while down the sidewalk.
We went out tonight to a Rosh Hashana party with our friends N. and I. who recently moved here from Haifa. It was hosted by a friend of theirs who prepared various food, in the suburbs of Berlin. It took us nearly an hour to get there with a bus and a train, only because we waited the maximum possible 20 minutes for the bus and 10 minutes for the train. The food was chosen to cater to every weird dietary abnormality, including vegan and glutenfrei options, so most of it was not that great.
The party was a lot of fun and we talked to all sorts of people. We got to know an Israeli circus artist and his Cornish wife, some funny Germans, the girl who was hosting the event - B., who was very nice, and her friends from Nokia (where she works), We also met N.'s German tandem partner L., who incidentally has the same name and occupation as my ex-girlfriend.
Since the party was in the "country" we got stung by loads of fat, slow German mosquitoes. There was also the house owners' dog, named Caspar, who was super friendly and could sit and shake hands on (German) command. It was dark and Guy said his headlamp would have come in handy. We stayed at the party for about an hour and a half, after which we made our (long) way home sharing the train with the circus couple.
