Today we had a late start and some kind of "combo meal" at the cheap restaurant nearby, then we went to see the Olympic park. We only bought an entry ticket to the water cube and contented ourselves with photographing the "Bird's Nest" stadium from outside. The geodesic architecture of all the buildings is pretty impressive.
Inside the water cube there is a water park with slides, and a big pool where they have swimming lessons. The water park was not very impressive compared to ones we saw in Slovakia, and we were glad not to have wasted more money. We bought some green tea flavored Pocky there and Leia practiced her hooping outside.
We tried to find the best restaurant for roast duck (or Peking Duck), Beijing's signature dish. It was a very fancy and expensive place, and we would have felt out of place in our shorts and dirty sports shirt if everyone else in the restaurant wasn't a similarly-dressed foreigner. They said it would take half an hour to prepare our duck, and we said fine... but over an hour later we got tired of waiting.
We walked out to the same burger joint (the brew-pub) that we'd eaten at yesterday, and had burgers with blonde ale. This time I ordered bacon on mine to bulk it up a little. Leia tried to order a salad instead of her fries, but they could not fathom how to make it without the spinach base, and even sent the English-speaking bartender to explain to us how unreasonable we were. We ended up taking crudites. We sat at the same table as yesterday and the same waiter recognized us. On the way back we bought more Pocky and some water. Altogether we ate three boxes of Pocky today: that stuff should be controlled as an addictive substance.
